A tragic incident at Ashbridges Bay leaves one woman dead after a car plunged into the water, with several others injured in the accident.
Toronto: A woman sadly passed away after a car went into the icy waters of Ashbridges Bay on Sunday night. It was a chaotic scene when police and fire crews arrived around 9:30 p.m.
They got reports that at least two people were stuck inside the vehicle. Paramedics later shared that six people were taken to the hospital. One woman was in critical condition, while the others, including four police officers and a male driver, had serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, the police confirmed the unfortunate news that the woman had died. Constable Viktor Sarudi mentioned they received a call about a vehicle quickly sinking into the water. The male driver managed to get out, but the female passenger was still inside.
The four officers were treated for exposure and have since been released from the hospital. It’s heartbreaking to hear that the female passenger was pronounced dead the following morning.
Investigators are looking into what happened. They noted that two other cars were parked nearby when one vehicle drove onto the ice and started to sink. Police are asking anyone who saw anything to reach out to 55 Division.
