Montreal: Winter is back in Quebec, and it’s making quite the entrance. After a brief break, the snow is rolling in just as we kick off 2025.

A Colorado low is on its way, moving up from southern and eastern Ontario. It’s expected to cover southern Quebec and the Eastern Townships with snow starting Wednesday.

So, if you’re in Montreal, get ready for some serious snowfall by the afternoon. The snow will start as a mix of rain and snow early in the morning, but it won’t take long to turn into the real deal.

Gatineau will also see some heavy, wet snow on Wednesday morning. Thankfully, the winds won’t be too crazy, just around 40-50 km/h.

As the storm moves through, Trois-Rivières, Quebec City, and parts of the Eastern Townships will get hit hard with snow starting Wednesday afternoon and lasting into Thursday morning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning that we could see over 15 cm of snow by Thursday. Plus, winds could gust up to 60 km/h, leading to some blowing snow on the roads.

By Thursday, the winds will pick up even more, especially in Montreal and the Richelieu Valley, reaching up to 70 km/h. This could make travel pretty tricky with poor visibility.

And just to add to the chill, this storm will bring in some Arctic air, meaning we’re in for a cold start to the new year. Expect temperatures to be near or below normal for the first few weeks of 2025.
