OTTAWA: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is pretty excited about the recent ceasefire deal in Gaza. He thinks it could really help cool things down here in Canada.

Trudeau mentioned that this deal might help mend some of the strained relationships among people affected by the conflict. It’s a step towards healing, you know?

He also pointed out that the ceasefire could lead to Hamas returning the body of a Canadian named Judih Weinstein Haggai. That’s a big deal for her family.

Trudeau is all in for supporting the ceasefire and hopes it’ll create some momentum for a two-state solution. Fingers crossed, right?

Qatar has stepped in with a plan starting Sunday. They’re looking at Hamas releasing hostages in phases, while Israel will let out hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and increase aid to Gaza.

This whole situation kicked off when Israel declared war on Hamas after a brutal attack in October 2023. It’s been a tough time for everyone involved.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, over 46,000 Palestinians have lost their lives due to the bombings, while Israel reports around 1,200 deaths from the initial attack. Those numbers include combatants, though.
