Toronto Public Health warns travelers of potential measles exposure at Pearson Airport
Toronto: So, here’s the scoop. Toronto Public Health is sounding the alarm about possible measles exposure at Pearson International Airport. If you were on Turkish Airlines Flight TK17 from Istanbul on Wednesday, you might want to pay attention.
The flight landed at Terminal 1 around 5:30 p.m., and now TPH is looking into a measles case linked to it. They’re urging anyone who might have been in that area to check their vaccination status and keep an eye out for symptoms until February 12.
If you haven’t had two doses of the measles vaccine or haven’t had measles before, you could be at risk. Symptoms to watch for include fever, runny nose, cough, and a rash that starts on the face and spreads down. There are also those pesky blue-white spots that can show up in your mouth.
Measles spreads easily, and the virus can linger in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours. So, if you were in the area, be cautious. Just breathing in contaminated air or touching something infected can put you at risk.
For those born in 1970 or later, two doses of the vaccine are recommended for the best protection. If you were born before then, you might have had measles since it was pretty common back in the day.
