Toronto police have made a record cocaine bust worth $83 million, arresting several suspects in a major operation aimed at tackling drug trafficking.
Chief Myron Demkiw said this operation is a game-changer for the city. It’s not just about the drugs; it’s about saving lives and making neighborhoods safer. He emphasized that getting these drugs off the streets helps reduce violence and disrupts dangerous criminal networks.
The bust came from a lengthy investigation that kicked off last August. It involved a lot of teamwork, with the Toronto police working alongside York police, the Canada Border Services Agency, and even the RCMP in Windsor.
Six people have been charged, including two from Mexico and four Canadians. They’re believed to be high-level distributors. Plus, there are warrants out for three more suspects—two from Mexico and one from Niagara Falls.
Superintendent Paul MacIntyre mentioned that this operation has really hit organized crime hard. He pointed out that a lot of the seized drugs came from a single truck that was stopped at the Canada-U.S. border. They also executed search warrants at various stash houses during the investigation. It’s a big win for community safety!
