A winter storm is set to impact travel in the Maritimes just before Christmas, bringing snow and potential delays for holiday travelers

This system is making its way across the country and will hit the Maritimes after passing through Ontario. It’s like the grand finale of a winter show, arriving just before Christmas Eve celebrations.
Recently, a storm already dumped over 20 cm of snow in parts of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. While this new clipper won’t be as intense, southern New Brunswick could still see up to 20 cm by Christmas morning.
The snow is expected to start falling Tuesday afternoon and will keep going into the evening. This could make for a tricky commute for anyone heading out to see family or finish up last-minute shopping.
Be careful if you’re out and about on Tuesday! Roads might be slick, and travel delays could pop up. The Fundy Highlands are likely to get the most snow, with some areas seeing up to 20 cm by Wednesday.
In places like Saint John, you might see around 15 cm, while Halifax, Moncton, and Fredericton could get about 10 cm. Luckily, Newfoundland looks like it will dodge this storm.
After this system, temperatures should stay mild enough that sea-effect snow won’t be a worry, but expect the snow to linger into Boxing Day as it hovers around freezing.
