A major winter storm is set to impact Atlantic Canada and eastern Quebec this weekend, bringing heavy snow and strong winds to the region
Fredericton: There’s a big winter storm brewing that’s going to hit Atlantic Canada and eastern Quebec this weekend. It’s expected to bring some serious snow and wind.
The first system rolls in Sunday morning, mostly bringing rain to the Maritimes and Newfoundland. But don’t let that fool you; it’s just the warm-up.
Along the southern coast of Nova Scotia, they’re looking at 10-20 mm of rain. Newfoundland’s southern shores might see even more. Meanwhile, northern New Brunswick and the Gaspe Peninsula could get 5-10 cm of snow.
Then, the main event arrives Sunday night and sticks around into Monday. This storm is no joke, with heavy snow expected in central and northern New Brunswick, including Fredericton. We’re talking about 20-30 cm of snow!
Eastern Quebec isn’t off the hook either. Communities east of Sherbrooke could see 10-15+ cm from this system. Plus, wind gusts over 50 km/h could make things pretty dicey with low visibility.
There’s a bit of uncertainty about how much snow will fall near the Bay of Fundy and across Nova Scotia, thanks to a battle between warm and cold air. But one thing’s for sure: a big chill is coming after this storm, thanks to the polar vortex.
