Ontario is bracing for a significant temperature drop as Arctic air sweeps in, bringing the coldest conditions of the season.
Ontario: Don’t let the warm start to the weekend trick you. Saturday’s nice weather is about to be replaced by some serious cold by Sunday morning.
We’re talking about temperatures dropping like a rock, with some areas seeing a 20- to 24-degree drop in just a day. It’s going to feel like the coldest it’s been in years!
If you’re hitting the road, be careful. The sudden chill will make roads icy, so drive safe. And if you’re heading outside, make sure to bundle up. You’ll want those extra layers!
So, here’s the scoop: a warm front will bring some mild temps on Saturday, with highs around 1°C to -3°C. But don’t get too comfy; that warm spell won’t last long.
Once the cold front rolls in, Arctic air will flood the province. Expect some lake-effect snow along Lake Huron, adding to the winter wonderland.
By Sunday, the real cold hits, and it’s sticking around for most of the week. In northern Ontario, temps could drop about 24°C in just 24 hours. That’s a serious chill!
Even in southern Ontario, you’ll notice a drop of about 12 degrees from Saturday to Sunday. Central regions might see a 20-degree drop. Brrr!
Sunday will kick off the cold snap, and it looks like it’ll hang around until Wednesday. Plus, we might get some lake-effect snow next week, but it shouldn’t pile up too much.
For many folks, this will be the coldest weather they’ve felt in years. For example, Kenora is looking at a high of -28°C, the coldest since January 2019. London and Ottawa are also in for some chilly nights.
As we move into late January, it looks like the cold will stick around. But as February rolls in, we might see some milder air trying to push up from the U.S. Fingers crossed for a break from the cold!
