Calgary: So, it looks like the weather is about to get a bit wild across the Prairies. A new storm system is rolling in, and it’s bringing some blowing snow along with it.

Over the next couple of days, we can expect some tricky travel conditions. The snow might come down pretty hard at times, and those gusty winds are going to make visibility a real challenge.

Drivers should definitely keep an eye on the weather and be ready to change their plans if things start to look dicey. It’s better to be safe than sorry, right?

From Thursday to Friday, this clipper system is going to sweep through from north to south. We’re looking at a light dusting of snow, with some areas possibly seeing up to 5 cm.

And just a heads up, temperatures are going to dip back below freezing for a bit on Friday. So, bundle up!

As the storm moves through, expect some squall-like snow and those gusty winds. Areas from Calgary to Swift Current will feel the brunt of it on Thursday, with winds hitting 30-50 km/h.

By Friday, Winnipeg will start to see some flurries too. The snow and wind will stick around in southwestern Alberta and Saskatchewan, with gusts reaching 50-70+ km/h.

Highway 1 and the Yellowhead Highway could see some serious blowing snow, especially in Saskatchewan when the winds pick up.

But don’t worry, temperatures will start to warm up by the end of the weekend, and that milder Pacific air will take over for the rest of January.

Just a little heads up, though: more cold weather is expected as we get closer to February. So, keep your winter gear handy!
