The RCMP union highlights significant staffing challenges in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, impacting police workload and community safety.
WINNIPEG: The union for front-line Mounties is raising alarms about staffing issues in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. They haven’t seen any official memo about moving officers there, but they say the workload is really heavy.
Bobby Baker, who’s with the National Police Federation, mentioned that while it’s not unusual to shift officers around, it usually happens in the northern territories. But now, things are getting tough in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
He pointed out that rural officers in Manitoba are feeling the heat, especially after dealing with a shocking 58 homicides last year. That’s a lot for any team to handle!
According to Global News, there’s an internal email going around asking RCMP members and reservists to step up for two-week assignments in those provinces this spring to help out.
However, the RCMP isn’t confirming the details of that email, citing privacy rules. It’s a tough situation, and the community is feeling the impact.
