OTTAWA: So, Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative Leader, recently said he only knows of two genders—male and female. He thinks the government should just let people be.
In a chat with CP24, he was asked about Trump’s move to recognize only two sexes. Instead of diving into that, he switched gears to talk about the rising cost of living.
When asked if he’d support Canada’s gender-neutral “X” marker on passports, he didn’t really answer. He just wanted to focus on helping people manage their everyday expenses.
Some folks weren’t too happy with his comments. Helen Kennedy from Egale Canada, an LGBTQ advocacy group, pointed out that it’s super important for leaders to support trans and gender-diverse people, especially with all the misinformation out there.
She mentioned that ignoring the existence of trans folks goes against years of medical research and only adds to the hate and violence they face. It’s a tough situation, for sure.
