Fergus: An Ontario retiree, Elizabeth Trafford, was in for a surprise when she checked her Lotto Max ticket. She usually walks her dog and checks her tickets on Saturdays. But this time, things were different.
After checking her first ticket and finding it was a dud, she moved on to the second one. Suddenly, the lottery terminal went wild, flashing “Big Winner!” She couldn’t believe her eyes.
When she got the call from the lottery folks confirming her win, she started to hyperventilate. Can you imagine? Winning $40 million just like that!
She quickly called her son to share the news. At first, he thought it was a prank. It took him a moment to wrap his head around the fact that his mom was now a millionaire.
Her son and his wife rushed over to celebrate with her. When she picked up her winnings, she was overwhelmed with joy, even tearing up as she checked her bank account. “Forty million, 107 dollars, and 93 cents,” she said, amazed at her new reality.
