Toronto: Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative team is gathering this weekend for a big “super caucus” to chat about their game plan for the upcoming provincial election. Two sources close to the government shared this with CBC News.

People are buzzing about the possibility of an election call happening as soon as next week, even though the official date is set for 2026. CBC Toronto mentioned that insiders think the election could be called in early February, but it might come even sooner.

Ford feels he needs a fresh mandate from Ontarians, especially with the looming threat of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods. Even though he has a solid majority at Queen’s Park, he’s looking to strengthen his position.

On Monday, Ford’s chief of staff sent out an email stressing the need for a “strong mandate” to support Ontario, saying, “The stronger the mandate the better.”

When asked if he’d be calling an election on January 29, Ford just told reporters to “stay tuned.”
