Community groups in Ontario are encouraging those receiving $200 rebates to donate if they can
Guelph: If you’re in Ontario and getting that $200 rebate from the government, you might want to think about doing something nice with it.
There’s this cool initiative called 200Dollars.ca that’s encouraging folks to donate their rebate if they don’t really need it. They’re all about helping out non-profits that do good work in the community.
It’s part of a bigger movement in Ontario, and United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin is getting in on the action, spreading the word on social media.
Colleen Murdoch, who’s with United Way, thinks it’s a fantastic idea. She said if people don’t need the money for their own expenses, why not give it to a local non-profit that can really use it?
With the government sending out these rebate checks between January and February, totaling around $3 billion, it’s a great chance to help others while easing the cost of living.
Murdoch mentioned that donations would support various organizations tackling issues like mental health and homelessness. Even a small contribution could make a big difference.
Plus, you’d get a tax receipt for your donation, which is a nice bonus. She emphasized that donating is just a suggestion, but it could really help those in need.
If you’re interested, you can donate online to United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin or give them a call at their office in Guelph.
