Montreal police have not made any new arrests since the protest turned violent two months ago, despite ongoing investigations.
Montreal: So, it’s been two months since that anti-NATO protest got out of hand, and guess what? The police haven’t made any new arrests since then. It was a pretty wild scene back in November when things turned violent, and it even caught national attention.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau didn’t hold back, calling out the chaos that erupted outside a convention center. Quebec Premier François Legault was also on it, saying it was crucial to catch those responsible.
Montreal’s police chief, Fady Dagher, seemed pretty sure there would be more arrests coming soon. He mentioned that they knew the group behind the trouble, which he described as a small band of “extreme-left” protesters. They were the ones who smashed windows and even set a car on fire.
Back in December, the police shared some blurry images of six masked suspects and asked the public for help in identifying them. But as of now, the investigation is still rolling along.
During the protest, three people were arrested, and it was organized by a group called Divest for Palestine along with some anti-capitalist folks from Montreal. It’s a messy situation, and everyone’s waiting to see what happens next.
