A mother expressed her profound grief in court after her son was fatally stabbed, revealing the deep impact on her life and family.
HALIFAX: It’s just heartbreaking. A mother, Basima Al Jaji, stood in court today, sharing her pain after her son, Ahmad, was stabbed to death last year. She spoke through an interpreter, and you could feel the weight of her words.
She told the judge that since Ahmad’s death, her life feels empty. Can you imagine? Waiting for your child to come home, hoping it’s all just a nightmare? It’s gut-wrenching.
Ahmad was just 16 and had come to Canada with his family in 2016, escaping the horrors of war in Syria. He was found injured in a parking garage and sadly passed away in the hospital.
Two teens, a girl and a boy, have pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the case. They admitted they knew they were part of a group attack that could lead to serious harm, but claimed they didn’t actually stab him.
There’s still a lot going on, though. A 14-year-old, believed to be the one who actually did the stabbing, is set to face trial for second-degree murder soon. It’s all so tragic.
This story was first reported by The Canadian Press, and it really hits home how violence can tear families apart.
