A powerful winter storm is hitting the eastern Prairies, bringing heavy snow and strong winds, causing travel disruptions and warnings across the region.
Traveling could be tricky, especially on the Yellowhead and Trans-Canada highways. So, if you’re heading out, keep an eye on the weather updates and plan accordingly. The storm is bringing a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain, but the snow is the main concern.
Winds are also a factor, blowing at 50-70 km/h, which means blowing and drifting snow could make driving a real challenge. Temperatures are dropping, but it won’t be a deep freeze just yet.
Snow started in Saskatoon and will continue through Sunday morning. Winnipeg will see snow starting Sunday morning, getting heavier as the day goes on. Northern Ontario is expected to get the most snow, with areas like Dryden and Thunder Bay in for a significant amount.
By the end of this storm, we could see 15-20 cm of snow from Saskatoon to Winnipeg. Northwestern Ontario might get even more, with similar totals expected. So, if you’re in the area, be prepared for some serious winter weather!
