Ontario: Winter took a little break over the weekend, with some mild weather, rain, and strong winds hanging around. But don’t get too comfy; things are about to change.

As we wrap up the year and head into 2025, a big shift is on the way. A major weather pattern is rolling in, and winter is making a comeback just in time for January.

A Colorado low is expected to bring a mix of rain and wet snow. If you’re north of the 401, you might see 5-10+ cm of snow. So, if you’re driving, be careful; the roads could get slippery.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, polar air from the Prairies will sweep into the Great Lakes region, dropping temperatures from the warm spell we just had.

On Tuesday evening, a system from the U.S. will bring rain to southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area. But if you head north, expect to hit wet snow just in time for New Year’s Eve.

As we ring in 2025, flurries will take over, and cold air will stick around for the week. Southern Ontario will clear up by Wednesday evening, but snow will continue in the snowbelt regions.

Travel on New Year’s Day will be tricky, so plan for slower commutes and watch out for slippery roads. Colder-than-normal temperatures are expected to hang around at least until mid-January.
