Toronto: Residents at a condo are facing serious heating problems just when it’s freezing outside. It’s one of the coldest times of the year, and folks are feeling it.

One tenant shared that they’ve had heating outages about seven times since October. They live at Dundas Square Gardens on Jarvis Street, and it’s been a struggle.

They even had to buy a space heater to keep warm, but it’s not enough. When they turned it off, the temperature dropped to a chilly 63°F. Others in the building are having their own issues too.

Lola Fugnitto woke up to a freezing unit, while Chris Moore said his place is too hot. It’s a real mess. The building, which opened in 2020, is managed by Icon Property Management.

Despite reaching out for help, one tenant felt ignored. They were told the heating issue was just in their unit, but that didn’t solve the problem.

Management did say they need to make emergency repairs, but they’re waiting on parts, which could take up to two weeks. That’s a long time to be cold!

Icon Property Management assured that they’re working on a permanent fix, but residents are still left in the cold. The space heater isn’t cutting it, and no other solutions have been offered.

According to city rules, landlords must respond to heating issues within 24 hours and keep the temperature at a minimum of 21°C during winter. But it seems like this isn’t happening.

With temperatures dropping to -12°C, it’s no wonder people are frustrated. The city even issued an extreme cold warning recently. A spokesperson mentioned they hadn’t heard of any complaints from this building, but residents can reach out to 311 for help.

If the management doesn’t comply with heating laws, they could face hefty fines. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
