Toronto: A large sinkhole has popped up right in the Church-Wellesley Village, causing quite a stir. Traffic is all over the place while crews scramble to fix it.

It all started around 10 a.m. on Saturday when police warned folks about the hazard. A city spokesperson mentioned that they hope to wrap up repairs by Monday.

Apparently, the sinkhole is linked to a broken watermain that’s over a hundred years old. These breaks tend to happen more often in winter, which makes sense.

The city’s been working hard to get everything back to normal. They’re keeping one lane open for both northbound and southbound traffic while they fix the road.

Oh, and if you’re taking the bus, the TTC has set up a detour for the eastbound 94 route because of the construction.

Photos from the scene show a sinkhole that’s about two to four meters wide, right in the northwest corner of the intersection.

Wellesley Street is closed in both directions, but Church Street is still moving along.

The city appreciates everyone’s patience during this hassle, especially for those living and working nearby.
