Toronto: The Arctic chill that swept through the U.S. recently is about to change as we head into February. It’s been a wild ride with the jet stream lately.

January was all about that crazy jet stream, pushing Arctic air into the central and southeastern U.S. This caused some serious winter storms and frigid temperatures.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Arctic regions were enjoying milder weather. But don’t be fooled; we had some chilly reminders of winter last week, especially in southern Ontario.

Now, looking at Western Canada, British Columbia has been under a high-pressure system, which is bringing in some mild Pacific air. This is going to change things up across the country.

By the end of the week, that high pressure will flatten out, and a new ridge will form over Alaska. This means Arctic air will start spilling into the Yukon and Northwest Territories, bringing some of the coldest temps of the season to British Columbia and Alberta.

Keep an eye on those cold milestones coming up this weekend; it’s going to be a chilly one!

Over in Eastern Canada, the shift won’t feel as sudden. There’s a lingering upper trough over northern Quebec, which is causing some wild weather and cold air to sweep into Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.

But don’t worry, a bit of Pacific air is on its way, giving a short break from the deep freeze for much of Eastern Canada.

As for February, it looks like we’re in for some active storms and unpredictable weather. The temperature flip means colder air will be hanging out northwest of the Great Lakes, while milder weather moves into the U.S. Southeast.

So, while we might not get a long thaw, February storms could bring some rain and the usual winter weather challenges. Stay tuned for updates!
