Dublin: Wow, what a wild week it’s been! Storm Éowyn really packed a punch as it swept across Ireland. The winds were insane, hitting over 180 km/h in some places. Can you believe a gust of 183 km/h was recorded in County Galway? That’s just wild!

This storm is making history, becoming the strongest one on the planet right now. It’s breaking records left and right. Just to give you an idea, the strongest wind ever recorded at Halifax airport was only 143 km/h during Hurricane Juan. So, you can see how serious this is.

Storm Éowyn dropped pressure like a rock, which is why those winds got so fierce. Over 715,000 people lost power, which is nearly a third of all homes and businesses in Ireland. That’s a huge deal and they’re calling it “unprecedented.”

Schools, public transport, and flights were all canceled because of the storm. It was so bad that a rare red wind warning was issued, the highest alert level. It’s the first time since Storm Ophelia in 2017 that the whole country has faced this kind of warning.

People really took the advice to stay indoors seriously. The streets were eerily quiet during what would usually be a busy morning rush hour. It’s just not something you see every day.

As the storm moves on, winds are expected to calm down in Ireland, but Scotland and parts of the UK might still feel the effects. They’re not expecting it to be as bad, but gusts could still reach 100-120 km/h.

And if that’s not enough, wave heights could hit up to 12 meters! That’s like three stories high! Coastal areas need to be careful because flooding is a real risk.
