Ottawa: So, the Liberal party’s leadership race is about to kick off, and guess what? Canada’s elections intelligence task force is on it. They’re keeping an eye out for any signs of foreign interference. Sounds serious, right?

Nathalie Drouin, the national security adviser, mentioned that the Security and Intelligence Threats to Elections Task Force will be watching closely. It’s all about making sure our democratic processes stay intact.

Even though leadership campaigns are run by the parties themselves, they’re super important for our democracy. The task force was created back in 2019 to help protect elections from outside meddling. It’s got folks from CSIS, the RCMP, and other key agencies involved.

The Liberal party just announced that the vote to pick their next leader—and Canada’s next prime minister—will wrap up on March 9. Exciting times ahead!

To keep things fair, the party is also tightening up the rules to prevent voter fraud. Now, only party members who are permanent residents, citizens, or have status under the Indian Act can vote. This is a change from the old rules, which let anyone living in Canada vote, no matter their status.
