A powerful winter storm is wreaking havoc in Atlantic Canada, bringing heavy snow and strong winds, especially in Newfoundland and the Maritimes.
St. John’s: A wild winter storm is hitting Newfoundland hard. It’s bringing heavy snow, rain, and some seriously strong winds. People are feeling the brunt of it, especially in the Maritimes.
Newfoundland is really getting the worst of it. Blizzard conditions are expected, and the snow is just piling up. It’s going to be a rough night with the wind-whipped snow continuing to blow around.
Power outages are becoming a big issue. Thousands are already in the dark, and it’s all thanks to those powerful gusts. St. John’s recorded a crazy 115 km/h gust this morning, making it the windiest day since last March.
This storm is no joke. It’s likely going to be classified as a bomb cyclone, which means the pressure is dropping fast. That’s what makes it so intense.
As for Sunday, folks in central and western Newfoundland can expect more snow throughout the day. Some areas might even see rain mixed in, which is a bit of a mess.
Over in Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia, snow is also on the way. The winds are going to be a major hazard, with gusts hitting 80-100 km/h. It’s going to be a wild ride until things calm down later tonight.

Snowfall totals are looking pretty hefty too. Central and western Newfoundland could see 20-40 cm, with even more in some spots. Prince Edward Island is expecting 5-20 cm, while northern Cape Breton could get 20-40 cm as well.
