Toronto police shared shocking footage of a gunfight at a recording studio, showing alarming behavior from those involved
Toronto: Recently, the police dropped a jaw-dropping video from a recording studio where a wild gunfight broke out last fall. It’s hard to believe, but nearly 100 shots were fired!
The footage, released as part of Project Poppie, shows people inside the studio waving guns around like they were toys. They were dancing, chilling with handguns in their laps, and then suddenly, shots rang out through a back door.
Supt. Paul Macintyre called it a reckless and dangerous situation. Thankfully, no one got hurt, which is pretty miraculous considering the chaos.
On November 11, 2024, three suspects rolled up to a birthday party at the studio in a stolen car. They started shooting at the building, and the people inside shot back. It got really intense when the suspects took cover behind an unmarked police car!
Can you imagine? The police car had two plainclothes officers inside, and it got hit multiple times. It’s wild to think about how close everyone was to danger.
When the dust settled, many people ran out, leaving behind a bunch of guns in the alley and trash bins. Officers found a serious stash of firearms inside, including automatic weapons and handguns.
That night, 23 people were arrested, including one of the original suspects. They seized 16 firearms, which is just insane.
Insp. Paul Krawczyk from the guns and gangs unit called the whole thing an “egregious act.” He pointed out how people were treating guns like props at a party, which is just mind-blowing.
He said, “You’ll see they casually play with the handguns and rest them on their laps before dancing around.” It’s shocking how reckless they were, spraying bullets without a care in the world.
Krawczyk mentioned this was likely a gang-related shootout but didn’t want to name the gangs to avoid giving them any fame. He’s right; they don’t deserve it.
Since that night, 14 more suspects have been arrested, and over 100 new charges have been filed. The police are still on the hunt for nine more suspects.
Most of those arrested were between 16 and 30 years old, with an average age of 22. It’s crazy to think how young some of them are.
Krawczyk said almost all of them were involved in the shootout or had guns on them. Sadly, even the birthday person got charged, and one 16-year-old boy was wanted for a homicide from earlier this year.
All the guns were illegal and traced back to the U.S. It’s a real mess, and it’s a reminder of the dangers lurking in our communities.
