A tragic house fire in Brampton has left one elderly man dead and two others injured, sparking a swift emergency response.
Aneesha Chawla, who lives next door, described the scene as chaotic. He saw a woman screaming for help, saying there were people trapped inside. Chawla and others quickly called 911. One person even jumped out of a window to escape the flames.
Fire crews arrived fast, battling heavy smoke and performing multiple rescues. Brampton Fire Chief Nick Ruller mentioned that they had to use both ground and aerial ladders to reach those inside. Sadly, one of the three men taken to the hospital later died.
The other two victims had non-life-threatening injuries. Ruller confirmed that the deceased was an elderly male, and at the time of the fire, five of the eight family members were home. This family, originally from India, is known to be close-knit, spanning three generations.
Chawla, who has lived in the area for about three and a half years, described them as good friends. He expressed his sorrow over the incident, highlighting the family’s warmth and connection to the community. Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with the residence currently cordoned off.
