Toronto: So, here’s the scoop. Centennial College, one of the big players in Ontario, is hitting pause on 49 of its full-time programs. Why? Well, the federal government is cutting back on international students coming to Canada.

They’re not taking any new students for the 2025-26 year in a bunch of areas, like business, media, and engineering. That’s a big deal! College president Craig Stephenson mentioned that these changes are all about adapting to the new immigration rules that have really shaken things up.

With fewer international students, the college is feeling the pinch financially. And guess what? Some staff cuts are on the horizon too, which is a bummer. But they’re trying to make sure the college can keep going strong in the long run.

It’s not just Centennial, either. Other colleges in Ontario are also trimming their programs. Algonquin College just announced it’s closing its Perth campus, and Sheridan College is suspending 40 programs. It’s a tough time for education in the province.

To top it off, the feds just revealed they’re lowering the cap on international student study permits this year to 437,000, down from last year’s target of 485,000. It’s a lot to take in!
