A polar vortex is bringing frigid temperatures to Atlantic Canada, with extreme cold expected this week across the region
Moncton: So, it looks like Atlantic Canada is in for a real chill. After that winter storm hit, the polar vortex is making its presence felt big time.
Temperatures are going to drop like a rock, hitting some serious lows. We’re talking about daytime highs in the Maritimes and Newfoundland that are going to be the coldest we’ve seen this winter.
Wednesday and Thursday are going to be especially brutal. New Brunswick could see temps plummet to between -20 C and -30 C. Nova Scotia and P.E.I. aren’t far behind, with highs barely scraping the minus double digits.
Even Newfoundland will feel the bite, with temperatures ranging from -10 C to -20 C. Not exactly beach weather, right?
And hey, if you’re heading out, make sure to bundle up. Dress in layers, and don’t forget that wind-resistant outer layer. Frostbite can sneak up on you in no time, especially with the wind chill.
After a good amount of snow in New Brunswick, with Moncton getting about 21 cm, the cold is really settling in. But it looks like the worst of the storms will stay south of us, which is a bit of good news.
We might see some light flurries, but nothing too crazy. Just a few flurries and some sea-effect snow here and there. So, it’s not all doom and gloom!
As we move through January, expect more of these colder-than-normal temps. Just keep an eye on the weather and stay warm out there!
