Scarborough: A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Scarborough. An eight-month-old baby sadly died after a house fire on Saturday. The baby was rushed to the hospital but didn’t make it.

Three others were injured in the fire. A four-year-old boy, a woman in her 70s, and a 38-year-old man were also taken to the hospital. The man had serious self-inflicted injuries and is now in custody.

The little boy had minor smoke inhalation injuries, while the elderly woman had a medical issue unrelated to the fire. Thankfully, both are recovering.

Initially, there was some confusion about the elderly woman’s identity, but police quickly corrected that. All four family members were rescued from the home and taken to the hospital.

Despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the baby was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police, paramedics, and firefighters worked hard to save the child’s life.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Finch Avenue and Brimley Road around 11:15 a.m. The fire has since been extinguished.

This is a tragic event that will deeply affect the family and the community. Police are providing support resources for those impacted.

The baby and the injured individuals are family members, but police haven’t shared details about their relationships. The investigation is ongoing, involving the homicide unit, fire services, and the fire marshal’s office.
