Burnaby: So, there was this heartbreaking inquest about Florence Girard, who sadly passed away from starvation. Her sister, Sharon, shared how tiny Florence looked in her casket, almost like a child.
Sharon mentioned she would have quit her job to care for Florence if she had known how serious things were. It’s just gut-wrenching to think about.
She also talked about how Astrid Dahl, the caregiver, was hard to reach. Either she wouldn’t answer or would say she’d call back later. That’s just not right.
Florence was kept in a room with a mattress on the floor, and the movie “Titanic” was always playing. It’s so sad to picture that. She weighed only about 50 pounds when she died in 2018.
Dahl was convicted in 2022 for not providing the basic necessities of life. The inquest is trying to figure out how to prevent this from happening again in B.C.
Sharon even brought a family photo to show how much they loved Florence. She’s really worried that without changes, more tragedies like this could happen.
