Eastern Canada braces for a return of winter as Arctic air sweeps in, bringing frigid temperatures and snow to the region
Toronto: Big changes are coming to the weather in Canada this week. After enjoying some surprisingly warm days in late December, winter is making a comeback.
Arctic air is on the move, and it’s ready to chill things down. This week, a cross-polar flow will send cold air sweeping across Eastern Canada and even down into parts of the U.S., reaching as far as southern Texas and Florida.
So, get ready for some serious cold! By Thursday, temperatures will start to drop, and by the weekend, we’re looking at daytime highs below freezing in the Greater Toronto Area.
Ottawa and Montreal won’t escape the chill either, with daytime highs around -10°C expected. It’s going to feel even colder with the wind chill!
And if you’re near the Great Lakes, brace yourself for some heavy lake-effect snow. Snow squalls are likely to hit areas east and southeast of the lakes, bringing significant snowfall and blowing snow starting late Wednesday.
This cold snap is expected to stick around for a while, with below-normal temperatures likely lasting through mid-January. So, keep your winter gear handy!
