Florida: January 16 was a wild day for space enthusiasts. Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket took off for the first time and actually made it to orbit. Meanwhile, SpaceX’s Starship had a rough ride and ended up crashing down in a fiery display.

New Glenn launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center early in the morning. It did everything right, reaching orbit just eight minutes after liftoff. That’s a big win for Blue Origin!

But not everything went smoothly. The rocket was supposed to land back on a barge in the ocean, but that part didn’t work out. Still, they celebrated the successful orbit, which was their main goal.

Blue Origin’s CEO, Dave Limp, was super proud of the achievement. He acknowledged that landing the booster was a tough challenge but promised they’d learn from this and try again soon.

On the flip side, SpaceX launched Starship later that day. The first stage booster did its job perfectly, but things went south for the second stage. It lost several engines and ended up in a spectacular explosion over the Turks and Caicos Islands.

SpaceX is no stranger to failures, but this one was particularly memorable. They’re already looking into what went wrong and how to fix it for future flights. It’s all part of the learning process in the wild world of space travel!
