A salmonella outbreak tied to mini pastries has sickened 61 individuals in five provinces, prompting a recall of the affected products.
Vancouver: A salmonella outbreak has hit Canada, and it’s serious. The Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is recalling a brand of mini pastries. These pastries are linked to 61 illnesses across five provinces.
People in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick have reported getting sick. Out of those, 17 had to go to the hospital. The ages of those affected range from three to 88 years old.
The CFIA says these pastries were sold in bakeries, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and even at catered events. If you have any of the recalled “Sweet Cream” mini pastries, it’s best to toss them or return them to where you bought them.
Most folks who get salmonella will recover in a few days. But it can be serious for some, especially older adults, young kids, pregnant people, and those with weak immune systems. Symptoms can include chills, fever, nausea, and stomach cramps.
